I have been a House of Lords fan from Day one. I must rank their self-titled debut album as one of my 10 favorite albums of all time (and that is saying a lot!). After a somewhat disappointing outing on their last album, The Power and the Myth, I was a little bit skeptical of this release (don’t get me wrong. I liked The Power and the Myth, it just didn’t live up to my expectations. However, once I heard that Greg Giuffria (Angel, Giuffria) had signed on for the recording of this album, my faith was restored!
With a new rhythm section in tow, James Christian and Greg Giuffria unveil an AOR masterpiece. World Upside Down starts with a very melodic intro, Mask of Eternity. You can feel the influence of Greg Giuffria from the first note! Then, all gloves are off from these AOR veterans. Heavy guitar riffs, pounding drums and soaring melodies make this an instant classic! And, if you loved the power ballads on their self-titled album as much as I did, you will not be disappointed. Between the soulful voice of James Christian and the keyboard magic of Greg Giuffria, you can’t go wrong.
I was happily surprised to find out that my version (German import) has a hidden song on it (Gone). Not necessarily the strongest song on the album, but a definite unexpected pleasure.
This album is a piece of melodic rock history in the making!
